Hardware specs.

What should the hardware spec. be for a local Voip server?
See the comment on the Trixbox forum here.
Trixbox has setup a shop and also announced a Trixbox appliance.
The shop site and the list of Trixbox “servers” is here.
The Trixbox site also has a reasonable list of manufacturers and their websites.
These will obviously be compatible with Trixbox so this is another reference point here for hardware specifications.

However, for legitimate sale within all the countries of the EU, all electronic hardware must in general terms be RoHS compliant, CE marked and comply with the WEEE directive. Manufacturers must meet these requirements before suppliers can legally sell electronic products into the VoIP market place.

For more information about about WEEE and RoHS see our Links page, at the bottom.

Embedded Systems

Asterisk can run very sucessfully on embedded platforms. The starting point for an embedded Asterisk solution should be to use AstLinux as the distribution. AstLinux will run on the following boards.

Soekris 4801

Wrap board In its current incarnation the Wrap board has reached its end of life (see the EOL statement on this page). Apparently a new board is on the way, see the PC Engines site for details.

There are a wide range of IP phones available. For information on IP Phones click here. We are also providing a link to IP Phone manufacturers here.

Firewalls

Protection of the perimeter of your network is essential and this requires a reliable firewall see the details on our Firewall page. The Wrap and Soekris boards mentioned above can also be used to power embedded firewall appliances.
